Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ was taken into custody in Ankara on the night of Monday, January 20, on the grounds of "insulting the President." Özdağ was brought to the Istanbul Courthouse after his statement at the Istanbul Police Department. In the meantime, the investigation launched against Özdağ by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was expanded in terms of the crime of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility." Following his statement at the courthouse, Özdağ was released for "insulting the President," and an arrest request was made for "inciting the public to hatred and hostility." Özdağ was arrested by the court to which he was brought.
