With the transfer of the capital of the Roman Empire from Rome to Istanbul in 330, security problems arose in the city. In order to solve this situation, the three-tiered walls of Istanbul were built by Emperor Theodosius II in 414. These walls, among the strongest defensive structures of the period, were not breached for nearly 1000 years until the conquest in 1453. Compiled by: Aziz Emre Öztürk.
